SEAL Analytical Limited is a UK based developer of discrete automated wet chemistry analysers for use in environmental and industrial laboratories. SEAL has over 25 years experience with automated discrete chemistry analysis.
In 2002, SEAL formed a wholly owned US subsidiary based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to promote the sales of discrete wet chemistry analyzers in the US and Canada. Subsequent to this, SEAL's international roll-out continued with distributors being approved in European and Asian Pacific countries.
In 2004, SEAL became the exclusive distributor of Bran+Luebbe Continuous Flow Analyzers in the USA, UK and Ireland.
In November 2006, SEAL completed the acquisition of the Bran+Luebbe Continuous Flow Analyzer (CFA) and Near InfraRed (NIR) Analyzer businesses. This brings together over 50 years of CFA analysis experience of B+L (formally Technicon Industrial) with SEAL's 25 year track record in discrete analysis, allowing SEAL to offer a truly complimentary solution in Automated Chemical Analysis for environmental and industrial laboratories throughout the world.

Biographies
James E Brathwaite, CBE - Chairman of SEAL Analytical Limited
Jim is Chairman of SEAL Ltd. He is also Chairman of four other small businesses in Sussex. After graduating in Zoology and Physiology at Sheffield University, he started designing training videos in 1982. He formed Epic Interactive Media in 1989, now one of Europe’s largest multimedia companies. He floated the company in 1996 becoming Britain’s first Black CEO of a publicly quoted company.
He was appointed to the Board of SEEDA,the Development Agency for the South East of England in December 2001 and in August 2002 was appointed Chairman. Jim is a member of the Court of the Sussex University, the DTI’s Manufacturing Forum and Small Business Investment Taskforce, Strategic Supply Chain Group, and until April 2006 DEFRA’s Sustainable Procurement Taskforce, and until June 2005 of the UK Trade and Investment’s International Trade Development Advisory Panel, when he was then appointed to the new International Business Advisory Panel until October 2006. From June 2006 he became a member of the DTI’s Environmental Innovations Advisory Group. He is a director of the University of Greenwich, Farnham Castle Trustees Ltd, Environment Agency, Public Catalogue Foundation, and until August 2004, was a director of the National Business Angels Network Ltd. Jim was a member of the national Small Business Council until June 2004, with responsibility for dealing with the Inland Revenue, and of the government’s Export Advisory Committee for the ‘Americas’, and the DTI’s Investment Committee until March 2006. He was a director of Sussex TEC Ltd from April 1993, which then became Sussex Enterprise in 1995, and he remained on the board until December 2002. He was the founding Chairman of Business Link Sussex, holding the post from 1996-2001, and also a founding Director of “Wired Sussex”. He has been: Treasurer of the Caribbean Advisory Group at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office; Chairman of the Arundel Festival; Governor of Brighton & Hove 6th Form College; a member of the Council of the University of Sussex. He is also Patron of the Asian Business Council. He was awarded the CBE for services to the Sussex economy in the New Year’s Honours 2001. He was also awarded an Honorary Degree from University College Chichester in 2003 and became an Honorary Fellow of City & Guilds in February 2006 and a Councillor in September 2006.
Tim Brittain - CEO, SEAL Analytical Limited
Tim’s background is in electronics/systems engineering. For the past 25 years he has been involved in Technical, Sales and General management of businesses involved in the automated chemistry analysis of clinical, veterinary and industrial/environmental samples.
During this time he spent extended periods of time in the Middle East and managing European technical support operations of American Monitor Corporation.
In the late 1990’s he ran the UK sales/support business of Synermed Europe Limited, and in 2000 led a Management Buy-Out to acquire their UK based environmental analyser business to form SEAL Analytical.
During this time the business has grown dramatically and includes overseas operations and an expanding worldwide distribution network.
Keith Tozzi - Director, SEAL Analytical Limited
Keith Tozzi has a BSc (Hons) in Civil Engineering, an MA in Management and completed the Harvard International Senior Managers Programme. He has wide experience at board level in creating and developing successful businesses. He was Group Technical Director (one of three executive directors) of Southern Water plc from 1992-96 where he had Board responsibility for the operational performance of the water company and delivery of the £300 million investment programme as well as the performance of seven other subsidiaries ranging from solid and liquid waste disposal companies to an engineering design consultancy.
From 1996-2000 he was Chief Executive of the British Standards Institution (a London based independent Royal Charter Company) where he grew turnover to over £200 million and acquired businesses in the UK, South America and Eastern Europe to leverage the brand. From 2000-2003 he was Group Chief Executive of Swan Group plc (which comprised Mid Kent Water plc, two Engineering businesses and the UK’s largest food testing company) and led a management buy-out backed by WestLB AG.
Keith is currently Chairman of London AIM listed Inspicio plc and Concateno plc – businesses in the international testing and inspection arena.
Stuart Smith- President, SEAL Analytical US Inc.
Stuart Smith's background is in Chemistry and Engineering. He has over 25 years experience in the Water and Environmental industries.
Stuart joined Bran+Luebbe UK in 1993, after spending many years as a laboratory chemist. He has been active in all areas of Customer Support including Service, Applications and Training for both Continuous Flow and Near InfraRed product lines. After moving to Sales, he was Bran+Luebbe Product Manager and soon became the Head of Bran+Luebbe UK Analysers. He joined SEAL UK as International Sales Manager with the Bran+Luebbe Analyzer business in 2003. In 2005, he moved to SEAL US to take up the position of President, SEAL US Inc.
Stuart brings a unique combination to SEAL as he has experience in all aspects of the business. The SEAL US team is enjoying rapid growth and success.
Stephen Coverly- Managing Director, SEAL Analytical GmbH
Stephen Coverly has over 30 years’ experience with CFA. After a B.Sc. in Chemistry he worked with the AutoAnalyzer in an animal feed research laboratory. He then joined Technicon UK’s applications group where he developed more than 100 CFA methods, published several papers on segmented-flow analysis and was awarded an M. Phil. for work on the development of combined CFA / HPLC systems. He worked in Technicon’s headquarters in Tarrytown to help develop TRAACS, the first integrated microflow analyzer designed specifically for industrial applications.
Following Bran+Luebbe’s acquisition of Technicon's industrial business in 1987, Stephen moved to B+L headquarters near Hamburg as CFA product manager. In 1996 he obtained a Diploma in Marketing, specializing in the market for continuous-flow and discrete analyzers. He became Bran+Luebbe’s CFA business manager in 1994 and was responsible for the marketing specification of the AutoAnalyzer 3 and QuAAtro. He takes a special interest in Asian markets and helped to establish Bran+Luebbe’s first analyzer office in China and to form SEAL’s alliance with BLTEC in Japan and Korea.
Stephen now manages SEAL’s Technical Centre in Germany which employs 30 people in R&D, manufacturing and applications.
